An American Reply For Putin

A hand holding a yellow 'DANGER' sign next to a small warning sign with a radiation symbol.

Putin asked Europe a pair of Questions. This is my American reply.

Dear Russia & Putin,

You asked a pair of noteworthy questions.

Why do you think Russia is an enemy of Europe?

What harm has Russia ever done to you?

Who am I? Nobody important. As an American who’s ancestors came from the very Europe you are addressing, I will share the concerns no European will verbalize because they feel terrified of the reprisals for doing so.

You’ve set your example of behavior with Ukraine. Oh, I am not just talking about the Ukraine of today. Since you went back to World War Two in your query to Europe, I too will include World History.

Let us start with the Povolzhye famine in 1922 that killed a lot of Ukrainians. Oh, it killed Russians as well, but this famine wasn’t just a bad day of no rain. Russian – Communist policies redirected much needed food away from Ukraine, making their situation far more dire at the time, and Russia claimed it was due to their Railroad problems. This is the start of Ukraine’s long lasting hate for Russia.

But as we know, it didn’t end there.

Should we be blaming Gorky? His letter to Europe seeking famine relief got answered FIRST by the United States. But Gorky didn’t have the fuel to transport all that food relief into the farther regions, and by the time some of that food got to Petrograd, 1.6 Million locals had already starved to death. Ukraine and several other countries got… nothing, not until much later, when it was way too late.

THAT was on Russia. Nobody else.

Then it got bad again, right?

I’m talking about the Holodomor. Is it here that I will hear you groan? This is the very point in history that Russia’s motives for targeting Ukraine in this man made famine came into serious question. From 1932 to 1933, millions of Ukrainians starved to death.

Let us leave the details to the historians.

Who am I, one may ask? Nobody. Just some guy with an education about World History. If you believe the Russian accounting, only 1 to 5 million Ukrainians starved. If you believe the Ukrainian accounting, it was more like 12 to 14 million who starved to death.

Russia even invited American Media Reporters and took them on a propaganda tour, showing everybody getting meals and doing well, and it was all for show. Bad World Reaction avoided. Or so you thought. Remember, YOU wanted to include History in this. Now here we are.

Now today, you ask two questions.

Why do you think Russia is an enemy of Europe?

What harm has Russia ever done to you?

We won’t go ask Ukraine’s President. He’s biased.

Last month, tens of thousands of dead Ukrainian people died. So did tens of thousands of Russians. Soldiers or not, how can you ask those two questions with so much blood on the ground, blood that spilled based on YOUR leadership?

What will happen in the future should Russia ever decide to place new hooks into other European countries?

This is concerning the entire world, Putin. And if a nobody like me can see this concern, with no National leaders breathing down MY neck, how do you think Europe will see you?

They are right to be terrified. Anybody would be.

Thank you for your time. Now you know the view of everyone else. Please react with civility for once. Nobody will take anything you say as safe until the moment you stop killing Ukrainians, while getting your own young soldiers killed in the process.
